John Dewar was born in 1805 on a small farm in Aberfeldy, a village in the Scottish Highlands. John Dewar proved to be a successful businessman at an early age when in 1828 he ran a wine and spirits business in Perth with a relative. After Dewar's whiskeys spread throughout England, the success also continued in the United States of America. Now Dewar's is the fifth largest whiskey brand in the world and the most sold whiskey brand in the United States. In Spain and Greece, Dewar's ranks third. To ensure consistent quality of Dewar's whisky, John Alexander Dewar opened a single malt distillery in Aberfeldy in 1898, close to the family's home. To this day, the Aberfeldy Single Highland Malt whiskey is produced here, which forms the main ingredient of Dewar's blended whiskies.
